Cheat:
Fly on Whiterun’s Dragonsreach and go to the right where you'll see some stairs. Go up them.

Once there you should see Proventus Avenicci who can sell you a house for 5,000 gold (you need to have this on you, but won't actually use it!).

Accept to buy the house, but make sure you press B on your controller as soon as you do (while Proventus Avenicci is talking). This gives you the chance to store your gold in the chest near him.

Then go back and talk to him and he'll give you the key to your new house!
