Activision Clarifies Launch Day Numbers, Elite Service Selling Well

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 BoxartLooks like someone at Activision was suffering from fat finger syndrome when they told us that 3.3 million players had logged in simultaneously to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on the game’s release day. Activision have since come out and said that there was instead “only” 1.4 million simultaneous players that day, and that the 3.3 million figure referred to the number of unique games played at launch.

In addition, further to our earlier report that GameStop had managed to sell around 600,000 subscriptions to the Call of Duty Elite service, Activision have revealed there is about 4 million gamers in total registered with Call of Duty Elite and that about one million of those gamers have paid subscriptions – a cool $50 million in further revenue. In addition, Elite gamers have created over 80,000 different clans and uploaded more than 100,000 videos – that’s a lot of video!

Are you a Call of Duty Elite member and are you finding the service worthwhile/good value for money?
