Xbox 720 to Release Before 2014, According to New Microsoft Ad

Microsoft has a pretty bad habit of ensuring that all of its employees are on the same page, as recently the company has been backpedaling on several of its recent comments regarding the next Xbox. After accidentally letting it slip that “the next Xbox” would work in synergy with Microsoft’s other upcoming devices and software, the boys and girls at Redmond have been trying to cover their tracks and perform damage control. Now, however, it appears Balmer and Co. have a little more work cut out for them, as a new Xbox ad suggests that the next Xbox will be releasing sometime before 2014.

The advertisement, which was for a senior position within Microsoft’s entertainment division, made the mention that “over the next eighteen months Microsoft will release new versions of all of our most significant products including Windows (Client, Server, Phone and Azure), Office and Xbox, along with completely new offerings like Microsoft Surface.” Given Microsoft’s dwindling power over the personal computer market and Apple’s increasing dominance with its ecosystem of products, this seems perfectly logical. Microsoft appears to be aiming for a much more coherent system of products, where things work with each other in meaningful and interesting ways, much like Apple’s products. When the aforementioned products drop, it seems reasonable that Microsoft would also tout the latest Xbox to add extra incentive to have a Microsoft-powered household.
