Ubisoft Announces The Expendables 2: The Game

Why, God? Why?

Just as I was beginning to respect the prolific publisher/developer once more, Ubisoft goes ahead and announces what is likely to be an awful game adaptation of what is almost guaranteed to be an equally awful movie. The Expendables 2, coming to theaters this August, is the sequel to, you guessed it, The Expendables, which shouldn’t have performed anywhere as well as it did.

As a journalist, it’s my job to be objective, but when publishers green-light projects such as The Expendables 2: The Game which is almost guaranteed to be a generic FPS, it really makes me wonder why companies complain about a lack of innovation or interest in their products. I can occasionally appreciate a brainless action movie for the simple joy of turning my brain off for an hour and a half, but I can’t help but facepalm when the videogame industry chooses to relegate itself to the realm of cheap Hasbro toy tie-ins.
