Need for Speed Most Wanted Gets a Multiplayer Teaser

The reboot of the Need for Speed franchise’s Most Wanted iteration has been gaining a lot of attention lately, probably because it shares the exact same name as the game it is updating, which is a bit strange. However, with Burnout veterans, Criterion at the helm this time around, it appears that we may actually have a much more intense and crash-heavy Need for Speed title on our hands. Hot Pursuit was an excellent addition to the Need for Speed franchise, and it appears that the update of Most Wanted is going to follow in the footsteps of that particular game’s blueprint based on this brief multiplayer teaser. Check it out after the jump!

Xbox 720 to Release Before 2014, According to New Microsoft Ad

Microsoft has a pretty bad habit of ensuring that all of its employees are on the same page, as recently the company has been backpedaling on several of its recent comments regarding the next Xbox. After accidentally letting it slip that “the next Xbox” would work in synergy with Microsoft’s other upcoming devices and software, the boys and girls at Redmond have been trying to cover their tracks and perform damage control. Now, however, it appears Balmer and Co. have a little more work cut out for them, as a new Xbox ad suggests that the next Xbox will be releasing sometime before 2014.

THQ Cancels Guillermo del Toro’s InSane

While we never knew much about the barely-revealed InSane from esteemed film director, Guillermo del Toro, it appears that THQ was very unhappy with the development of the title, as has since cancelled it. The cancellation follows in the wake of other recent THQ studio closures and game cancels, which resulted in the company’s first profit in quite some time. While some may lament the fact that the publisher put a lot of people out of jobs in the process, there’s no denying that the move was smart business from CEO Brian Farrell. Regardless, our condolescences to the employees and their families of recently closed THQ studios.

How Many Consoles Will Exist in the Next-Generation of Gaming?

With the recent success of the open-source, Android-powered Ouya game console on Kickstarter, the waning power of current-gen console manufacturers, and the increasing number of studios being shuttered by publishers, the possibility of a generation of gaming with more than three consoles is very real. Developers are growing increasingly more frustrated with the bureaucracy and general unfriendliness of the current console platforms and publishers, and are looking for any way to avoid the pratfalls and barriers such avenues provide. While it’s certainly a concern that the gaming industry may not be capable of sustaining itself in a next-generation traditionally, if more, open-source competition emerge to challenge the sleeping giants, we may see the flurry of new ideas and creativity this industry needs. If developers don’t need to risk their livelihood to develop a brilliant idea into a game, then the outpouring of content may rival that of the flourishing iOS platform.

Army of Two Sequel, The Devil’s Cartel, Announced

Right before the company’s Summer Showcase, EA has officially announced that it will be releasing an Army of Two sequel, dubbed The Devil’s Cartel, in 2013. The game will feature Alpha and Bravo from the previous game, and will supposedly set the two bros for life in the middle of a drug war (hence the name). Mine did.

The Assassin’s Creed series has never been particularly amazing looking, but it’s never been a slouch, either. Ada Wong Confirmed as Playable Character in Resident Evil 6

Capcom has been releasing a steady trickle of information regarding Resident Evil 6 ever since its debut, and today the esteemed developer confirmed the addition of an Ada Wong campaign for the upcoming zombie shooter. The enigmatic and mysterious Ada Wong (or girl in the red dress, to those who are unfamiliar with the character) appears to be just as hard to read in the sixth installment of the popular Resident Evil franchise. Using her trademark grappling hook to get around and armed with her usual sensuous voice and one-liners (and a crossbow), Ada Wong appears to be fully intact for Resident Evil 6. Have a look at some of her campaign’s gameplay after the jump!
