Battlefield 3 Illegal in Iran

Battlefield 3 SoldierIt is now illegal to sell or own EA’s Battlefield 3 in Iran. The ban most likely relates to pirated copies of the title only, as Electronic Arts has never made the game officially available there. In fact, it seems EA is somewhat happy about the situation, being quoted as commenting, “In that Battlefield 3 is not available for purchase in Iran, we can only hope the ban will help prevent pirated copies reaching consumers there.”

The ban apparently comes as a result of the game depicting the United States Army fighting in Tehran, which is the capital of Iran. In response to this, “5,000 Iranian youths” apparently signed a petition against the game, saying, “We understand that the story of a video game is hypothetical, [but] we believe the game is purposely released at a time when the US is pushing the international community into fearing Iran.”
