To make thousands easily you should have six Sims in your household with the kleptomaniac trait.
Edit one of the purchasable lots and make the garage large. Delete the roof and put as many of the costliest cars in the garage.
Make all your Sims visit the lot at or before 7 pm. Then make sure no one is in the garage and one by one swipe the cars.
Then go to build and buy mode and select household inventory.
From here you can sell all the cars - you should get 100,000 or more!
